VISITING APREMONT
Just 18 km from Flower Camping Au Bois des Biches, on the rocky banks of the River Vie, Apremont is about 25 minutes away from the campsite. Its castle, now a private home, has played a big part in the town’s history.
APREMONT CASTLE
Apremont Castle was built in 1534 by Philippe Chabot de Brion, a friend of Francis I and Admiral of France. In 1733, it was taken down stone by stone. Today, all that remains of the castle are the ramparts, the towers and a cavalier vault that is unique in France.
From the medieval period, you can see the entrance gatehouse with traces of the old drawbridge, the walls and their towers, and the west curtain wall. From the Renaissance period, you can visit the East and West towers, but only on guided tours. You can also see the chapel and its exhibition on Philippe Chabot de Brion, who built the castle, as well as the cavalier vault.
