The Brétignolles-sur-Mer market takes place every Thursday and Sunday morning, all year round, in the heart of the town. Right next door, a covered market brings traders together under cover, with opening days that vary by season. In July and August, the La Parée district adds two summer markets. On Monday mornings, there are stalls of fresh produce. On Thursday evenings, there is a market dedicated to art. The resort is about 17 km from Au Bois des Biches, our 4-star campsite in Vendée. Allow around twenty minutes by car.
Key points to remember

| Covered market | 07:30–13:00, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday off-season, almost every day in summer |

The weekly market, Thursday and Sunday mornings
This is the big market of the week. Stalls set up on Place des Halles, at the foot of the bell tower, on Thursdays and Sundays. They run all year round, with fewer stallholders out of season.
This market sells both food and general goods. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, fish, shellfish and local specialities often sit alongside clothing and everyday items.
The finishing time varies depending on the source: 13:30 according to the town, 12:30 according to the tourist office. It’s best to arrive before midday.
Visitors’ favourite
On summer Sundays, the village centre takes on a festive feel.

The covered market hall, shelter from the weather
Just a short walk away, this building is home to 14 traders across 450 m². It stays open even in bad weather, from 07:30 to 13:00. The calendar changes through the year. Here is the one published by the town, updated in July 2026:
| When | Opening days |
|---|---|
| From mid-April to 30 June | Every day except Monday and Wednesday |
| July and August | Every day except Monday |
| From the 1st to mid-September | Every day except Monday and Wednesday |
| From mid-September to mid-April | Thursday, Saturday and Sunday |
The two markets complement each other well. On a Thursday or Sunday, you can visit both in the same morning.
La Parée, Mondays in summer
Over in La Parée, the neighbourhood close to the beaches, fresh produce stalls set up on Monday mornings. They are only there in July and August, on Place Jean-Louis Joubert. It’s a handy option for holidaymakers staying near the seafront, and it also means you can avoid the town centre, which is busier in summer.
The night art market, on Thursday evenings
On summer evenings, La Parée hosts a market dedicated to art and creativity. In 2026, it took place every Thursday from 9 July to 27 August, from 18:00 to midnight.
The 2027 dates have not been published yet. The market usually returns every Thursday throughout the summer.
Visitors’ favourite
An evening stroll between the stalls, after a day at the beach.
Which local specialities should you bring home?
The market stalls along the coast showcase local seafood and the best of Vendée produce. Sardines caught from April to October at the nearby port carry the Label Rouge. The rose, a small local shrimp, joined the “Sites remarquables du goût” in November 2025. On the food side, Vendée brioche and mogette beans each have PGI status. Préfou, a warm garlic butter bread, is often served with drinks before a meal. Wines from nearby Brem-sur-Mer complete the basket. Our article on Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie sardines tells you more about their history and season.
Parking for the market
There are several car parks around the market stalls, all in a blue zone with a 1 hour 30 minute limit. The car parks on rue de l’Église and rue Béthanie are restricted at all times. From April to September, the rule also applies on Thursdays and Sundays on boulevard du Sud. It also covers avenue de la Plage and the health centre. A parking disc is essential. The website of the municipality of Brétignolles-sur-Mer publishes up-to-date times.
Other markets along the coast
There are plenty of weekly markets along the coast, so you can visit one almost every day. Here are the main ones, according to the tourist office.
| Town | Days |
|---|---|
| Saint-Gilles, port side | Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, 08:30–12:30 |
| Croix-de-Vie | Wednesday and Saturday |
| Brem-sur-Mer | Friday, plus Tuesday in July and August |
| Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez | Thursday and Sunday |
| Sion-sur-l’Océan | Tuesday and Friday |
The Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez market is the closest to the campsite, ideal for everyday shopping. To stay between these stalls and the beaches, the campsite near Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is 20 minutes from Brétignolles.
A tip from the campsite team
In July and August, arriving before 10:00 makes parking easier. On Thursday mornings, the market hall and the neighbouring stalls are easy to combine.
