Five years later, in 1867, the beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Monts began to attract thousands of bathers. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town had around 5,000 inhabitants.
More than 8 km of beaches
The town of Saint-Jean-de-Monts grew considerably, particularly the district around the beach. Hotels sprang up, and by a few years before the First World War there were close to a hundred residential and commercial buildings. Saint-Jean-de-Monts has eight (8) kilometres of beaches that draw thousands of visitors from France and from several other European countries.
They come to spend a memorable holiday in the Vendée , some enjoying water sports and others camping. In 1947, the French state closed the railway line running through the town. Fortunately, this setback did not stop the seaside resort from developing as a tourist destination.
